Default OpenOffice + Evolution: sending documents

    Hello!
    Configuration and versions:
    OpenSuse 11.3
    OpenOffice 3.2.1.4 Build 9505
    Evolution 2.30.1.2

If I create a letter in OpenOffice (File->Send->Document as E-mail), when Evolution closed, this letter will not automatically sent - I should to open Evolution and click on button "Send / Receive"
But if I create letter, when program opened - my letter will sent successfully.

Mozilla Thunderbird has no this problem.

    Best regards, Alexey

thunderbird has no problem because it is an email client and when you
press send in it, it *is* open and running..

but, OpenOffice is not an email client so it uses Evolution to send
email since (apparently) you have that set as your default system email
    client..

my default email client is Thunderbird and my LibreOffice just sent via
that bird, no problems....of course, either Thunderbird or Evolution
must be running to send mail, whether whether written in LibreOffice,
    OpenOffice, or anything else..

so, maybe you just need to set a different default mail client...i guess
you are using Gnome, and i do not know how to do that on Gnome

What email client have you set in Tools>Internet>Email? In LibreOffice, it has been set to the installed email client.

"thunderbird has no problem because it is an email client" and "OpenOffice is not an email client" - its very fun )) I understand it.

If I set Evolution as default mail client and send mail from OpenOffice - Evolution does not work properly - this is problem!

Changing mail client to Thunderbird - it is not the solution.
Yes, I am using Gnome, but Gnome or KDE, in my opinion, does not affect OpenOffice and Evolution.

see, i totally misunderstood your problem!

now i think i understand: you want to use Evolution as your OpenOffice
emailer, but it won't work if Evolution is not running *before* you
    click send..

so, you must to do one of these:

    1. make sure Evolution is running before clicking Send as Email in
    OpenOffice

    2. make Evolution start up when you open any OpenOffice application

    3. make Evolution start up when you boot, and let it remain running

    4. setup OpenOffice so that when you click Send as Email it launches
Evolution and tells it to email your file

i know how to do 2 and 3..
you know how to do 1..
maybe someone here knows how to do 4

i do not offhand, but something like this _might_ work: teach OO to send
a CLI command like this, when you click Send Document as E-mail:

    evolution -file /home/[you]/Documents/[fileNameToBeMailed]

by the way, i wonder what would happen if Thunderbird were set as the
OpenOffice mailer but was not running when Send as Email is clicked in
OO--i guess it is the same as for Evolution...try it...

i'd guess 4 above would be a good feature, but it would have to be added
by the programers (unless you wanna hack the source code yourself)....it
something that can be asked for i'd think....but, not here...ask
    Libre/OpenOffice folks..

I thought about these ways, too. Thank you very much!
I think, I should write about my problem on Gnome/Evolution Forum
