Weird bug with the authentication when updating

Hi everyone,

Since I installed the 11.4, I have a weird bug when I do the update process (in GUI). Though it doesn’t prevent the updates to install, it is a little annoying.

When I click the accept button to apply the updates, I get the usual authentication dialog. I input my password and then I get the same dialog but without the field to enter the password. If I click the Authenticate button, the dialog doesn’t shut and the update doesn’t proceed. But if I click the close button in the title bar, the dialog shuts and the update proceed. I never had this second dialog appearing in both the 11.2 and 11.3.

Here’s some screens :

screen 1

screen 2

Someone has an idea ? Do I file a bug ?

Strange.
Not seeing this problem here

Yeah I know… I’ll wait to see if someone encounter this problem and if not, I’ll file a bug.

heh! interesting…i’ve never heard this report before…

assumption: it worked correctly for a while, then broke

so, it (‘it’ being YaST and/or that new thing kpackageupdaterhelperkit
(or whatever it is called that replaced YOU) got damaged somehow…

so, i suggest you use zypper to reinstall YaST and
kpackageupdaterhelperkitchensink thing…

then see if ‘it’ will start working (together) right again…

if not, you need to log a bug…(though if you are the only one who
ever sees it–good luck)

but, if ‘it’ does start working, you might be able to eventually
find out how it got damaged, but probably not (but, i’d start by
looking at which and how many repos you routinely have
enabled/refreshing)…

hey! are you using Tumbleweed??

Hi DenverD,

No, it didn’t broke. Since the installation of 11.4 it is like that. I never took time to report it…:shame:

Anyway, I’ll do what you suggest to see if it repair it or not and give you feedback before submitting a bug.

Thanks.

I forgot,

I don’t use Tumbleweed.

I have had similar (but not identical) problems. On one occasion, I hit “cancel” on the second authentication window, and it went on and worked. On another occasion, I cancelled everything, then started the update over again.

I have no advice of reporting a bug. I have not done so myelf. PackageKit is buggy, but the bugs are elusive and hard to document and repeat.

As far as I know, this is a completely different updater applet than was used in 11.2 and 11.3.

So the culprit could be this pakagekit thing…

wow…really strange!
ok, did you (from 11.3 to 11.4) do a format-install, or an upgrade?
oh, and maybe you went from an RC to gold?

anyway, yours is VERY unusual and if it was not damaged after install
(and then broke), it had to be during install (if you burned a disk,
did you do this: http://tinyurl.com/2ebcf27 ?)

or, damaged before and carried forward (which is why i asked about the
format)…anyhow, whatever the particulars of your install should
probably be in the bug…

[and, i bet as long as you are the only one to see this, it won’t be
looked at.]

that is my guess, and i think it is kinda important to submit every
bug on it we can…(and, so far that has been several different little
‘hiccups’ spread in several different forums here…)
