Default White Sparkles/Spots over dark areas of videos

    Hi,

Today while watching a video on my PC I noticed some white sparkles or spots appearing at the dark/blackish areas of the video.

The first thing that came to my mind was that the video may be corrupted so I tried another one. But the same thing happened with it too.

Then I changed the video driver of Smplayer from vdpau to xv but the same thing.

Then I tried playing those videos with vlc but those white things appeared there as well.

Here is an example of the problem. I have circled the areas with green.

    I am using

    openSUSE 11.4 Gnome 64 Bit
    XFX Nvidia 9500 GT
    Nvidia Proprietary Driver Ver. :260.19.44
    openSUSE Leap 15

white sparkles and other unwanted video artifacts usually go away by
adding more video ram and graphic computing power/speed..

Point taken but I borrowed my friends hard drive (with Win 7 installed in it) where the same video is playing fine under Win 7.

I don't know what corrected it but everything is back to normal now.

I am only guessing that the nvidia driver or something is getting destabilized

I forgot to mention the amount of video ram present on my system. Its 1 GB.

In your opinion, isn't that enough to play a 720p video ?

should be, but lots of things can be involved....like what else was
going on on your machine when the sparkles were seen?

it only takes a *very* _very_ small part of a single second with the
CPU or GPU and/or the pipeline between the screen and the hard drive
being overfilled or just slightly clogged and BINGO there is *nothing*
to put in that tiny little space on the screen...and, so it is white
(or black, or stays the same color it was in the last frame or or or)

    see?
