Thread: How use Dolphin to "open containing folder" from firefox downloads?

    I am wondering where this behaviour has to be fixed. [1] shows a link to a Firefox bug which was last updated 2014-12-01: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=266600#c41.
    So it can be either fixed in Firefox or (probably better) by putting the correct content in /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.FileManager1.service. I tried putting "/usr/bin/xdg-open" to the Exec line as suggested in [1] and it worked the same way as commenting out the line. Noteably, not only dolphin opened the correct directory, but the file was selected also.

    Which package is responsible for the org.freedesktop.FileManager1.service file?

    No. AIUI, org.freedesktop.FileManager1.service does have the correct content for its intended purpose.

    IMHO, this is a bug in Firefox in that it prefers org.freedesktop.FileManager1.service, which is only implemented by Nautilus at the moment.

    OTOH, I have no idea how it is supposed to be possible to install more than one package that implements org.freedesktop.FileManager1.service and use the correct one according to the desktop in use or the user settings...
    So probably that whole design is flawed.

    But openSUSE's GNOME maintainers have closed the bug report as invalid.

    Notice that "zypper upgrade" can not be used to upgrade from 13.1 to 13.2. You have to use "zypper distribution upgrade", ie, "zypper dup".

    If you used "zypper up" you might still have incongruities in the system.

    There was a recent thread about this issue. Following the advice there, I created this file:

    Code:
    cer@Telcontar:~> cat .local/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.FileManager1.service
    [D-BUS Service]
    # CER - # colAflash
    # http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php?t=504039
    Name=org.freedesktop.FileManager1
    Exec=/usr/bin/xdg-open

    #       cer@Telcontar:~/.local/share/dbus-1/services> xdg-mime query default inode/directory
    #       Thunar-folder-handler.desktop
    #       cer@Telcontar:~/.local/share/dbus-1/services>
    cer@Telcontar:~>

    And now thunar handles the request (which is correct as I use xfce).
    However, clicking on several downloads in firefox took about a minute or two to respond, then I suddenly got half a dozen file browser windows.
