    Default right click

After a forced reinstall, I find myself missing the desktop folder which I can live without. However, I reallty need right mouse button functions. How can I restore them please?

Click the cashew and unlock the widgets
Find the 'activities' menu and add a new activity > folder view

Shortcut for that is Alt+D then Alt+A if necessary.

Alt+D then Alt+S brings up 'Desktop Settings.'

    No Desktop folder??

Maybe you should run fsck on the home partition.

Why did you have a forced reinstall?

I should have been more specific. Opensuse 11.3, kde 4.4, on a generic system with 2gigs of ram.
The forced install was because, on an installation only about a week old, / had developed a bad superblock or magic number. None of the tools I could find would repair it.

Thank you caf 4926 and Lord_Emsworth. Putting your remarks together ave me the kind of desktop I have been looking for: kde 3.5, more or less. (note: alt d, alt a had no effect) And it can't possibly do any harm to fsck /home.

Once your KDE 4.4 grows up to KDE 4.6 that will work too.

    did you replace that drive..

if not, then you need to expect all kinds of problems to pop
up....because the drive needs some serious fixing..

    is it still in warranty?
have you contacted the maker and see if there is a recall, or exchange
because it has a known problem?

have you made sure the cables are correctly and securely seated in the
back of the drive and at the motherboard?

if you have another, known good data cable to connect to the drive,
    please do so..

how old is the power supply and is it strong enough for the load it
    has to supply?

The drive is old but I think smartctl is telling me it's ok. Please comment.
The power supply is also old but was chosen for overkill.
