Maybe I misunderstand you - but it sounds like you are saying your LiveCD does not boot completely. The LiveCD should not need a password - even for root, if I recall. I just used the 11.4 LiveCD two days ago (the KDE liveCD), and installed software. When it asked for a password, I just clicked through with no password.

Therefore, your LiveCD is not working properly. My first thought would be to check the hash (md5 or sha1 or something like that) for the downloaded ISO. If that checked ok, I would then reburn the CD, and start again. If it is getting to a login at text mode, I can't imagine it would be hardware related, but anything is possible.

sir there is nothing wrong with you cd with the password deal. for some reason the live cd or if it is installed will not set up the
x11 or kde untill you go to sessions and put a check mark into the kde work station.
just click on the linux icon, go to the session and click on kde work station, and then click login. dont need a password.
    thank you

i can't tell if you have tried to install yet...or if on the first time
you booted the CD you didn't get a screen that looked like this:
    http://tinyurl.com/2ebcf27

if you didn't get that green graphical screen then i have to suspect
(along with spokesinger) you have a faulty install disk...and, you need
to check it...see the "Download Help" link on the software download page..

if you did get that green graphical screen, and the black login/password
screen later then boot again to the green screen and let the disk self
test by selecting "Check Installation Media"..

if the disk checks ok, then the next time you boot, as soon as you see
the green screen press the down arrow and type in
    Code:
    nomodeset
which is a 'trick' discussed on this page
http://tinyurl.com/23mgej6...which you will probably have to visit again
along with http://tinyurl.com/37v9y7m to get your graphics card to play
nicely with linux (if it will, see
    http://www.google.dk/search?q=linux+...pphire+HD+6870)

let us know how you get on..

(lots of nice folks in Poland.)
