    Default paste.opensuse.org

i note in http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php?t=456344 that the
images in "SUSE Paste" used to illustrate the problem will be
available only one or three years.

which _may_ be long enough for all who google in to see the problem
which this thread solves, or maybe not..

certainly, the thread has no value without the images...so, maybe the
    thread should be auto-deleted with the images... or . . . ??

or http://paste.opensuse.org/ should _default_ to delete after
never..(which looks to be a very minor html code change)

and (if possible) that should not be changeable..

But isn't this the same for log files?
If someone starts a thread with an error log on paste.opensuse.org it will become useless if the file expires,
since you won't be able to see if it's the same error message as you might get.

AFAIK paste.opensuse.org supports image to be kept for ever.
And I don't think setting Never as default is such a good idea.

sure...it is the same for anything put there to understand the problem
(or the solution--that is, some may want to paste bash scripts in as a
    solution)

the current default is to delete the paste in one week..

using the assumption that at least one person will accidentally
overlook the chance to change the default to something longer, would
you rather the paste to be deleted in one week, or never?

how about, three years, would that be a better default than either one
    week or never?

I agree on that, one week is very short, three years sound quite good.

Imagine that someone overlooks this option and the default was set to Never and he's unable to change that.
Now he realizes that the output of the command he posted contained more information than he wanted. (username, IP-address, etc..).
So he wants to change/remove the paste.

It just seems too restrictive to me to be unable to remove/change a past for ever.

You guys might want to send feedback to Michal Hrušecký, since he is (I
believe, based on the info at the bottom of the page at
paste.opensuse.org) the person who set this up. This isn't something the
forums team has any control over, so the feedback should go to Michal.

see, i had not thought of that--mostly because i never make mistakes!
    ;-)

yes you are right, there should be a way to delete any information
that should not have been pasted, before never..

    OR one week..

one thing that could be done, rather quickly (but not instantly) would
be for the person who pasted and then didn't want the paste seen to
use the 'report' function to let the moderators know of the problem..

then, a mod could remove the link from view or maybe better delete the
post from both the web and nntp side.. (as far as i know it would not
be possible to simply edit out a link..

i see it hasn't changed yet, so i wonder if anyone from the forum team
has discussed the default setting with Michal?
