    Hi,

If you go in yast->Network devices->networ card, make sure that the option "manage netwrok with network manager" is checked.

i hope opensuse sort out the stability issues of 11.4
after i made that change it become mega slow.
once i logged out and back in it seems to be ok.

On IRC I also helped someone with this solution.
On my 11.4 installs Network Manager has been enabled by default.

Has anyone installed openSUSE multiple times(any version), had this happen and might offer an observation/guess?

I have installed 3 times. Twice, NetworkManager was enabled. Once it was not.

The default setting was actually appropriate in all cases.

The two cases where NM was enabled were laptops. The case that defaulted to "ifup" was a desktop system.

I must have a different version of Yast, because when I go to yast->network devices-> there is NO "network card" listed. So, there's no way I can set "manage network with network manager".

Pulling my hair out here -- about to dump 11.4. Whatever happened to a simple network manager that automatically appears?

That doesn't mean you have a different version of Yast, there is yast which is the console version, and yast2 which is the gui version, both are in all versions of opensuse

What it means is it's not detecting your wi-fi adaptor for some reason

You haven't mentioned whether you have an onboard or a usb adaptor, there are commands you can run in a terminal (konsole in kde) which can show which devices are connected and help determine whether the system is actually detecting your adaptor, which is a good place to start

lsusb <--- lists connected usb devices

lspci <--- lists internal or 'onboard' devices

If you can't see your device in the result of either of those it's likely to be either a hardware issue or an unsupported device

It may be worth you reading these threads if you haven't already, lots of good advice on how to configure and/or troubleshoot wireless in them
