    Default Yast says no (or very slow) internet, but Firefox contradicts it.

    I just installed openSuse11.4 KDE in dual boot with Win7. I have observed that Firefox can open websites but in contrast to this, whenever I try to install rekonq web browser (thats because I find Firefox the slowest browser presently available on earth), Yast says about 593 MB of data to be downloaded and installed. It starts with 3.2 KB/s (or even lesser) speed and further decreases to about 1.3KB/s speed and then ... just stops there (waited for 2-3 hours for downloading just 4-5 MB of data). Can anyone suggest a remedy for this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Maybe it is your internet connection
    Open a terminal and write this
    Code:
    traceroute 10.0.0.138

    I want also for you to go
    Start menu-->computer-->yast and then
    yast-->network devices-->network settings.
    And send me a picture of that. And also I want to check if your Ip is static or not static. Send all results here.

    I also thing something about your firmware.

    The result of Network settings is as follows:

    Device Name: eth0
    Started automatically at boot
    IP address assigned using DHCP

    I am getting good speed in rekonq web browser, but during installation of softwares through Yast or zypper command in terminal, I get speeds in-- 100-200B/s or at the most 2-3KB/s.
    I can't understand why is this so slow.

    Please help me.

    As I can see your settings are ok. Strange it is. Maybe your network here is not stable.

    If you can connect to the internet normally, it might be a problem with your repository setup, as in "you may be using some repositories that are overloaded". You can check your repository list and make traceroute for each to learn where is the connection getting slower.

    If it is ok and your repositories are up and running, try installing a random program via zypper to see if this happens in zypper too. If it doesn't, it would mean that something is wrong with your yast2. Get more information and report back here.
    The only problem with troubleshooting is that sometimes trouble shoots back.

    I have the following repositories enabled (as seen in command- "zypper refresh")

    linux-3npg:/home/babloo # zypper refresh
    Repository 'libdvdcss' is up to date.
    Repository 'packman' is up to date.
    Repository 'openSUSE-11.4-Non-Oss' is up to date.
    Repository 'openSUSE-11.4-Oss' is up to date.
    Repository 'openSUSE-11.4-Update' is up to date.
    All repositories have been refreshed.

    I want for you to make a download of a program
    Code:
    su
    Code:
    # zypper install celestia
    Try with that.

    The problem seems to have resolved on its own (I don't know how) but presently, the speed seems to be okay although intermittently it decreases drastically.
    Thanks.
