Default How to install lxsplit in opensuse

    Hi,
I recently migrated from Ubuntu 10.10 to Opensuse 11.3

I sometimes need lxsplit to join splitted files.

In Ubuntu I installed lxsplit from the repos but I can't find it in the Add/Remove software, here in opensuse.

Do I need to enable any additional repos to install lxsplit ?

    Please help.

    Hi
    It's here;
    software.opensuse.org: Search Results

If you use the 1-click install, uncheck the box to stay subscribed so it won't pull anything additional onto your system at a later date. It's recommended to only subscript to oss, non-oss, Updates and packman repositories.

    try searching here:
    http://software.opensuse.org/search

    i bet you find a 1-Click install! ;-)
only thing is to always click to NOT keep the repo active after
    installing..

Followed your link & found lxsplit.

I have downloaded & installed it manually instead of the 1click install method.

I am trying to understand how package management works in opensuse.

If I don't subscribe (which I haven't) to the repos from where I install software will I receive updates if a later version of the same software is included in those repos ?

I have installed the Nvidia proprietary driver using the 1 click install page which resulted in inclusion of an additional repo "http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.3" .

Am I suppose to deselect that repo too?

Thanks a lot for your replies.

    Hi
Yes, if you don't stay subscribed you won't get updates if/when they appear, but for the odd package here and there on OBS it's better for you to do a manual check to see if a package is updated, what the update was and if you really need to update.

I would leave the nvidia one active (I install via the 'hard way' as in download the driver and install manually), it does take some time for this one to get updated after a new nvidia release or kernel update.

i just built it from source
it is not likely to ever get a update any time soon so ...

    with the nvidia driver ???
that depends on you and YOUR experience
for me -- i have been building and installing the .run for SO MANY YEARS on different OS's that it is VERY easy for me to do that ( i can do it in my sleep)
