mistake....it is unfortunate your first week of "help" was not...and,
finally Carlos (who has a _real_ depth in the subject) was willing to
    try to help...

on the other hand, it is not your fault that you didn't know who to
ignore, and who to listen to.

Hi DenverD - I think the more important problem is that I'm being dragged way out of my limited depth in such matters with arcane/ not crystal clear instructions designed for an OpenSUSE newbie. If that's the only way to fix this problem, then I'm happy to abandon this and go try some other distro or just stay happy with Linux Mint/ Ubuntu.

How would you suggest I proceed? Should I just reinstall the system? Are there any flags during the install which will warn me of "bad URLs"? Is there any way of testing for "bad URLs" before getting to much into the new setup?

    follow Carlos' advice..

if you do not understand what he tells you to do, ask!
or read openSUSE documentation, help, forum postings until you do.

or if you are happy with Linux Mint/ Ubuntu, stay with what works for you!

I don't see what is so difficult with posting a log file to a pastebin.

Maintaining a computer with any system has difficulties, you will bump into
them sooner or later. Either you tie your boots and march, or hire somebody
or find a friend who does it for you.

Or you can try another system, and if it works for you, perfect! You might,
of course, bump into some other difficulties at some other time.
