Default [SOLVED]: Ctrl-Alt-F1 almost always gives black screen ( 11.2, 2.6.31.14-0.6, gnome 2.28.2)

    Here is the solution.

(I don't know how to change the title of the original thread to indicate that the problem is solved, so I've started a new thread with a link. There must be an easier way!)

the easiest way: we don't mark our threads here as "[SOLVED]" for
several reasons which you can learn about by using the forums advanced
search function and looking in the two forums in which we discuss such
    things, here:

Hmmm .... I commented on the original thread.

    Did you ever try:
    Code:
    sax2 -r -m 0=sis
    ?

It is enough to tell in your original thread that you are satisfied with the solution described in that thread. Most people can read your thread from top to bottom (when they venture there by e.g. a google or Forums search because they have something similiar as you had) and they can come to theit own conclusions.

Please do not make a useless thread like this one. A search for a term like Ctrl-Alt-F1 will give this one as one of the results and it does not help anybody.

Sorry about this redundant thread -- I was expecting the moderators to simply delete it. I was elated and I wasn't thinking. I wanted to celebrate the help I've received by showing that problems addressed in this forum DO get solved!

I did look for forum rules and guidelines before starting this thread, but I didn't check the "feedback" section. Thanks for the link. I see now that solutions should be verified before adding "[SOLVED]".

No, I didn't try 0=sis. It was not one of the options mentioned in the OpenSuSE Graphic Card guide. But I see that oldcpu has mentioned it now. I will try it and report back.

Thanks for the help and the graphics guide.
