I downloaded the network installer(the one that requires an internet connection). The usb drive shows up in the bios and is selected as the boot device.

The network installer and the DVD images require some extra steps to make them USB bootable. The instructions are here (Under Windows instructions):
    SDB:Live USB stick - openSUSE
    Desktop: Gigabyte GA-Z270-HD3 - Core i7 7700K - openSUSE Leap 42.2 KDE
    Laptop: HP EliteBook 8770W - Core i7 3940XM - openSUSE Leap 42.2 KDE

lol I thought it was a all in one setup that all you had to do was download and run the iso through the program and it would make a bootable usb drive. I found out I could use my xbox 360 hd dvd drive on me eepc to install it( alot easier) Thankyou for your help(im just learning how to use linux).

Yes unfortunatly the only version of openSUSE that is that straightforward is the Live version. Good luck installing openSUSE. Feel free to ask any questions on this forum. Since you are learning how to use Linux/openSUSE you might find all of this quite handy:
