    Default openSUSE 11.3 KDE 4.5.0+compiz question

    openSUSE 11.3 KDE 4.5.0
    Not fully satisfied with kwin performance I decided to try compiz. So far so good.

    One issue and its probably because I just have no experience with compiz at all.

    When I click on the title bar to grab and move the window of some applications it gets stretched onto 3 of the 4 desktop views. After messing with settings ect.. I gave up and switched back to kwin then back to compiz which seems to have restored the initial window positions.

    So my question is how to make compiz controlled windows behave.

    Beginning to believe it might be a theme issue partly will try switching to oxygen or air and see what it does.

    adding emerald and running emerald --replace seems to work better.
    Changing /usr/bin/compiz-decorator
    from:
    USE_EMERALD=no
    to:
    USE_EMERALD=yes

    as suggested by CRC123 now to see if it will startup without any other changes.

    Its all working now. Might be a more optimal way to load and run but this is a start. I hope it brings stability frequently missing off and on from kwin's rapid development/release schema.

    You can get both via
    http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...openSUSE_11.3/

    Don't know if it's working with KDE 4.5

    I've been using compiz for almost 2 years now. Kwin is making nice improvements but is still far behind compiz-fusion regarding speed(big emphasis on this one). Besides compiz has some extra plugins/features which I find essential.

    A couple of days ago I upgraded to KDE 4.5 and I have the exact same problem you have. Clicking on the title bar, to move it, does not work. Furthermore, if you have the plugin "resize window' enabled, clicking on the title bar will cause the window to increase 500% or more in size, successfully freezing my system.

    Apparently, this is a KDE 4.5 bug, and a nasty one IMO, it is kind of a deal breaker,. I'm seriously considering going back to 4.4

    Note: It is possible to temporarily circumvent this problem by using the "Move window" plugin. When active, pressing alt+f7 will allow easy window movement.

    No need to press F7. You can move windows by holding ALT, left-click anywhere in the window and drag.

    Update: the problem seems to relate more with the kwin window decoration I was using. previously, I had one of the "new" transparent decorations. When I switched to one of the old school themes like oxygen or plastik, everything behaved correctly.
