Thread: Still wanting image software

    Default Still wanting image software

I am now after something like Raw Therapy to process my RAW Nikon images. Is there a good one other than RAW therapy? And what package can I download it from?

    Hi
Do you want me to build rawtherapee for you? The stable version 2.4.1
    or the 3.0 version?

TonyBennett, further to malcolmlewis's post, you can install rawtherapee via two methods. One is to click on the 'one click install' and install it that way. When the installation asks if you with to retain the repository be sure to select NO. It is best as a new user to have as few repositories as once.

The other method, in order have a detailed insight/control as to what is taking place, is to install it this way (with 3 commands):
    Code:
    zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/djs_core/openSUSE_11.3/ djsfiles
where that means 'zypper' to 'add repository' of provided 'url' and call the repository 'djsfiles' (where 'djsfiles' is any name you make up - and its the name that you will call the file server associated with the 'url' for easy tracking ) ...
    .
    Code:
    zypper in rawtherapee
where that means zypper install rawtherapee (pretty intuitive eh ? )
    .
    Code:
    zypper rr djsfiles
where that means 'zypper' 'remove repository' djsfiles (where djsfiles is the name you made up - up above).
    .
and then as an optional step if you wish to learn more about what was installed, type:
    Code:
    rpm -qi rawtherapee -l
which is an rpm command to query, obtain information, and list the contents of the rpm package rawtherapee, and that will give you a description and tells you what files were installed. Its all very simple once you know the commands.

you did see ufraw, didn't you? it's included in the standard repos (OSS)
and works quite well, in my opinion. works together with GIMP, too (via a
    separate plugin).

in my most humble opinion, the places to look for
applications/packages for your openSUSE is here, in my order of
    preference:

    1. YaST

    2. http://software.opensuse.org/search

    3. http://packages.opensuse-community.org/

    4. http://www.google.com/linux

if you are searching for something similar to what you are familiar
with from an off-brands operating system, try looking in these:

    http://linuxappfinder.com/
    http://jjmacey.net/blog/?p=179
    http://www.osalt.com/
    http://www.linuxrsp.ru/win-lin-soft/table-eng.html
    http://sourceforge.net/

hint: do not fall for the trap of trying to install all the stuff
before the price goes up! or like it was cracked/stolen or
whatever...and, look at the date--if it has not been updated in two or
three years it may mean one of two things:

    1. abandoned, hopelessly out-of-date and unusable
    2. so perfect it will always be useful with no updates needed, ever

google or ask here which it might be..

I think if you downloaded "a couple of others" then it probably would help if you advised what you downloaded. I know some members would be reluctant to suggest something you have already downloaded, but since you did not say what you downloaded then they won't say anything .... i.e. someone has to bridge the 'communication gap' and mention a package, so why not just state what you tried and did not like ?

Anyway, ... I note the package 'gimp' has plugins that handles the raw format for some cameras, but not all. Did you check if gimp has plugins to handle the raw format for your camera?

Perhaps Bibble will work for you (not free, but still): Bibble Labs - Professional Photo Workflow Software
