    i found
    <http://www.dvapdongle.com/DV_Access_Point_Dongle/Home.html> which
says: "The DVAPTool application used with the DV Access Point Dongle
may be installed and run on Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7, Mac OS X
Leopard/Snow Leopard, or many flavors of Linux."

*BUT*, i couldn't find where the maker lists the flavors it works
    with--did you?

    i did find, here
    <http://www.dvapdongle.com/DV_Access_Point_Dongle/Installation.html>:
"Drivers for the FTDI USB chip used by the DV Access Point Dongle are
included in most Linux distributions. Plug in the DV Access Point
Dongle and download the DVAPTool archive at
    http://www.dvapdongle.com/downloads/DVAPTool-linux.tgz and extract to
your Desktop. You can then proceed to the Using the DV Access Point
Dongle page listed at the top of this page. Note that some
distributions like Ubuntu include an accessibility package called
brltty that must be uninstalled before DV Dongle use. Newer versions
of Ubuntu may require disabling the Modem Manager."

suggest you find a forum full of the dongle user and see what Linux
    the folks there are using...

NOTE: i do not believe you should expect to download the tool using
the dongle! instead use your internet connection and browser and go to
    the URL given..

Be it ever so humble, there is no place like 127.0.0.1.

why do you assume there should be a package for openSUSE? have you
read my response of five days ago?

the maker of that dongle says it is included with most "Linux
distributions"...but they don't bother to say WHICH distros, or what
    the driver is named..

and, for sure just laying a driver on the desktop (as their info says)
is not gonna make anything work anyway..

again:suggest you find a forum full of the dongle users and see what
Linux the folks there are using...

and how they got it to work..

of course, you are welcome to wait here until someone with that
    particular dongle happens along . . .
