Well you can download to your computer as rpm and then with a usb stick you can install them in your friend's pc

For example this are rpm files

Then through yast you can install them in p/c. With a Click such as windows.

vlc has also repository the videolan repository, in my opinion he must install from his computer

    in terminal he must write

    Code:
     su
    Then
    Code:
     zypper addrepo -f http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/<openSUSEversion
You must also download it as rpm to your stick

here the url VideoLAN - VLC media player for openSUSE

Gcc is on the openSUSE DVD. Vlc can be found in packman or in the Vlc repo stamostolias mentioned. I prefer the packman version. If you have a large portable harddisk you can make repository snapshots and carry the disk to your friend. You can add these snapshots as repositories with Yast or zypper.

    Index of /pub/linux/misc/packman/suse/11.3/i586 for 32-bit
Keep in mind VLC is going to most likely other packages as well that the VLC package depends on.

You can use wget to download everything. I give you an example with the packman repository. Better use a mirror close to where you are from Repositories/Packman - openSUSE Community Wiki. For the example I use inode.at. Whatever
    Downloading with wget:
Open a terminal (konsole, gnome-terminal). cd into your Download directory and download the repo with wget
    Code:
     wget -r http://packman.inode.at/suse/11.3/
This will download everything from packman into your Downloads directory and preserves the repository structure. Maybe you can drop the x64 folder or the i586 folder if it's too much to download, but that's just a guess.
You should be able to download any repo with wget. Here are lists of repositories Package repositories - openSUSE and Package repositories - openSUSE
    Good luck!

Right, that's why I would download everything under /packman/suse/11.3/ instead of just /packman/suse/11.3/i586 - because of the dependencies... And I guess you can't add a repo which only contains the i586 stuff, can you?
