There are MANY video editors for Linux, of which openSUSE 3rd party Packman packagers package most.

The video editor I use, and the only one I am familiar with is "kdenlive". I believe "kdenlive" and "cinelerra" are the most advanced video editors for Linux. Cinelerra is likely more advanced but it is very user unfriendly. I could never figure out how to use it. It also does not have the same tutorials available for training, while kdenlive has lots of video tutorials. Kdenlive is likely the next most powerful video editor for Linux.

    Links:
Kdenlive has available tutorials Tutorials | Kdenlive which is helpful to learn video editing techniques. Kdenlive also has an active forum for getting help and asking for features and reporting bugs: Forums | Kdenlive

Other video programs packaged for Linux are:
    • 2mandvd - ManDVD is a graphical tool for creating Video DVDs, including menus 2mandvd | Bienvenue sur le site de 2ManDVD
    • Bombono - Bombono DVD is a DVD authoring program for Linux with a Gtk GUI. The main features of Bombono DVD are: * MPEG viewer: Timeline and Monitor * WYSIWYG Menu Editor with live thumbnails * Drag-n-Drop support * Author to folder, make ISO-image or burn directly to DVD * Reauthoring: import video from DVD discs Bombono DVD | Author DVD Freely [this one is GTK based]
    • Kino - Kino is a non-linear DV editor for GNU/Linux. It features excellent integration with IEEE 1394 for capture, VTR control, and recording back to the camera. It captures video to disk in AVI format in both type-1 DV and type-2 DV (separate audio stream) encodings.
      Linux Digital Video -
    • LiVES - [a video effects, editing, conversion, and playback system aimed at the digital video artist and VJ. It uses commonly available tools (Mplayer, ImageMagick, and GTK+)]
LiVES Video Editing System - Because the media should be open
    • Open Movie Editor - designed to be a simple video editor, that provides basic movie making capabilities. It aims to be powerful enough for the amateur movie artist, yet easy to use.
Open Movie Editor - Free and Open Source Video Editor
    • PiTiVi [Pitivi is a Non Linear Video Editor using the GStreamer media framework]. PiTiVi, a free and open source video editor for Linux
    • vivia - [Vivia is a video editing program for Linux and Windows. It provides editing of clips and transitions in real-time, along with multi-camera support for editing scenes that were recorded by more than one camera simultaneously. Not updated for 3 years so not recommended]
      Vivia - The Video Editor

There are also other apps that I did NOT mention on that list, such as the very powerful avidemux and also the application dvbcut .

    RECOMMENDATION:

My recommend is you go into YaST > Software > Software Repositories and setup your openSUSE with 4 and ONLY 4 repositories enabled, those being OSS, Non-OSS, Update and Packman. You must have those 4. And ONLY those 4 (no others until you learn more).

With those 4 enabled, you can then easily go to YaST > Software > Software management and install any of the video editors I mentioned.

Also, the very general nature of your question suggested you did not spend any time looking at our FAQ section on this forum, and it really behooves you to do so. For example had you done so, you would have noted this FAQ/Guide post: Applications - DVD Authoring Tools

Repository #1 and #9 are packman. You only need 1 of those but not both.

Repository #3 (VLC) will cause you problems. I recommend you disable it.

#7 and #11 (non-OSS) duplicate each other. You only need 1 but not both.

#12 and #8 (OSS) duplicate each other. You only need 1 but not both.

#6 (openSUSE-11.3 11.3-1.82 ) is for your installation CD/DVD and if you do not want to be constantly nagged to insert it, I recommend you disable it.

I'm puzzled, given those repositories, I'm thinking you failed to understand my recommendation:

    Hi
I have used DVBCUT from the Packman 11.3 repository for some time now for editing mpeg files and have found it very useful.
It may be the type of .vro files I am processing but it seems to work very quickly as it only recodes the start and end of cuts.
Give it a try it may work for you.

For cutting avidemux has a smart clipping mode that recodes only the first few derived frames before the first original I-frame. Usually the end cut doesn't require recoding (never saw that).

But for more advanced editing (i.e., transitions, effects, audio tracks, etc.) you should take a look at kdenlive.
