Unhappy YaST Closes After Installing Packages

Why does YaST close after one installs a package? Is there a way to disable this annoying feature?

Thank you for all of your help.

    System Specifications:
    openSUSE 11.3 64-bit(installed from a Live CD)
KDE 4.5(error also occurred in KDE 4.4.4)

This is an example of where the SuSE-GmbH packagers eventually listened to the openSUSE community and they added a means to do this .

    Go to:

    YaST > System > /etc/Sysconfig Editor > System > YaST2 > GUI > PKGMGR_ACTION_AT_EXIT and change it to "restart".

at least that is the setting I prefer to use. It does mean to exit the Software Manager you need to select File > Exit (quit won't work) or simply in the lower right corner select 'cancel'.

    Hi,

    Yes it can be configured.
    1. Start YaST
    2. Select /etc/sysconfig editor
    3. Navigate to (by clicking + character) System|YaST2|GUI|PKGMGR_ACTION_AT_EXIT
    4. Choose "restart" or "summary" from the drop-down choice
    5. Click on OK

I prefer to select "summary" for the closing action because it allows you to review the installation logs.

    Great!
I didn't know that. Some versions ago the default behavior was that at the end of installation you got a dialogue in which you were asked "Install more packages?". That dialogue disappeared. I missed it. But what you say in this thread is much better.
You always learn a lot in this forum.

Thank you, this solved my problem as well. However it is strange that this is default behaviour. Theres no prompt that the packages was installed successfully - for all I know they could've crashed.

I am stuck with using zypper most of the time because of this. I am however using gnome-3 so I'm not sure if everything is as it is or slightly strange.

In Linux silence from a program means success.

You can review the mail list archive and find how this change of behaviour
of the YaST package manager was argued at the time.
