Thread: Trash

    Default Trash

    Hi,

    I can't delete any files bigger than 4 Go. I got a message telling me that my trash is full and I should empty it. But there is nothing in it.

    Is there any thing I can do to be able to delete files over 4 Go?

    Thanks

    You may be finding that files deleted as root are still present in trash, you can open the trash folder as super-user and delete any root deleted stuff as one option. Another option is to delete using the terminal : rm <path/filename> which will delete without using the trashcan.

    In addition to the very fine suggestions from techwiz03, you might consider clearing your tmp folders. There are two ways to effect this change:

    1) Open /etc/sysconfig/cron, search for a line saying

    Code:
    CLEAR_TMP_DIRS_AT_BOOTUP="no"
    ...and edit "no" to "yes".

    2) This could also be done via GUI: YaST → "Editor for /etc/sysconfig".

    Code:
    /System/Cron/CLEAR_TMP_DIRS_AT_BOOTUP
    Be careful with this setting. It is thought to be good system maintenance to do this, but an unscheduled power failure and clearing of the tmp folder might make file recovery impossible. Of course, you can make this change just temporary until your present problem goes away or try setting the clearing to only occur every couple of days.

    When you are in the GUI, you can also highlight the file you want deleted and press shift + delete. This should delete the file immediately and bypass the trashcan (similar to the command line rm
