You guys must have good eyes

I don’t know what the webmaster(s) here are trying to achieve by making the icons larger - as they are now for a month or so - and the fonts smaller - as a consequence of that new sidebar (!). But the forum is becoming more and more unreadable on smaller and even bigger devices - and I replaced my glasses not that long ago.

May I suggest either reading some books about web design or some articles about presbyopia… or both?

Or maybe that’s just me and the web has changed again while I was sleeping - to meet new social networks and other fancy requirements.

  • I figured out the zoom in function of my browser so far.

Its an interesting topic. I often wonder when working on a project if I still have to respect 800x600 or even 1024x768 resolutions anymore? Looks like the answer is yes! I have a humble 23 inch monitor @ 1920x1080 and use all of the real estate it brings.

Think nntp. No Icons and you can set the font to something readable.

lol ! I think the letters of <left-ctrl> and < + > on my keyboard are almost faded and unreadable now from my constantly pushing them to increase the font size in Firefox !

+1 and also blue writings on blue background don’t make it easier for me

You can use Ctrl + Mouse wheel, too

Uwe

lol ! I was also thinking maybe its time I bought new glasses. The neighbours are complaining my Fonts are too big!

I mean no offense to anyone involved in the webdesign of this forum … but my eyes don’t catch 11px on the home page. This is about 8 or 9 pt. The font size should be set in percent not in pixels.

@oldcpu
Hi! You can zoom the font but you cannot scale it - means your browser font settings are ignored as the font size is hardcoded in the style sheet. Zooming and scaling are not the same (ask your eye doctor!).

@venzkep
I’m aware of the existence of nntp. Thank you! I was sure somebody would have made this answer. That was your turn.

@glistwan and anyone else frustrated by the new design …
I allowed myself to rewrite the CSS, as I really needed it (sorry but 11 pixels is not an option for me). Here’s the userstyle: opensuse forum redesigned with userstyle. You can use this style or take it as a template to overwrite a couple things (font size, colors, icons). Btw, it also tries to fix the shifted nicknames issue.

that is so cool…i hope to soon find time to use it here…well, i
seldom use the web side because it is so impossibly
bells/whistles/winkies/blinkies/and colorful fluff…not to mention
REALLY hard to read gray on gray…

thank you for sharing, i’d never heard of the stylish plugin…i’m
gonna have it MY way!!! tada!

We nntp users are small in number but persistent.

It is indeed impossible to use the web by all means. Maybe it is not intended to be usable anymore … Who knows? We have to invent something else … something else … not the same with more colors, pictures and videos. It’s like travelling. Noawdays since idiots are welcome anywhere … where do you want to go? Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, boldly go where no man has gone before?

It is indeed a blessing. This is the only forum in which I participate -
thanks to the nntp interface.

Ha! Perhaps nntp could be improved with html >;-P

ROTFL! X’-)

I read that one in Tom Sawyer (in Spanish) when I was a kid. I couldn’t
understand the meaning then. I’m guessing now that the bad language would
have been censored out of that version, after all, it was for kids.

So, you don’t like that improvement?

No fear, that’s not about to happen, nntp is almost forgotten.

don’t think there was any real bad words in Tom Sawyer (it was for
kids but it was assigned reading in university “American Literature”
class)…i think maybe he talked about what would happen if his
parents caught him “cussing”…

i distinctly remember my grandmother telling me that she WOULD wash my
mouth out with soap if she heard me cussing…and, i’m sure she was
not teasing…

the idea was that cussing was ‘dirty’ so you had clean that mouth…of
course, old time, homemade (with lye and animal fat) soap would
probably taste horrible and burn too…so, the most smart young lads
would not get caught cussing, especially not twice!!

This practice is not so uncommon in the US.

Spooky! Just been listening to a debate on BBC radio, telling me that the book is being republished with all the bad words (modern usage) edited out. A quick google confirmed these links: Twain classics to drop racial slur and this from The Telegraph. Read, but please don’t discuss the content any further here as it’s heading off-topic.

phani.

That’s very useful! I didn’t know it.
