Hi,
I am looking for an application that I can select different types of instruments and select notes to play, and then make different instruments play at the same time or specified time in the track, thus composing a complete music. I am not looking for connecting instruments to computer and recording them, but I am looking for something that can compose music without using actual instruments.

I don’t use this kind of software myself.
But a while back I tried some things LMMS.
I does support connecting a piano to your computer it is also usable without one.
It’s in the Packman repsoitory.

You could try TuxGuitar. I’m using it mostly for playing tabs but it allows for simple compositions with midi playback as well and there are a lot of instruments to chose from. It’s very similar to GuitarPro but totally free to use and a bit less friendly and lacks a ton of features from GuitarPro but still I think it’s worth a shot. It’s available from the packman repo.

This is output of zypper install lmms
Problem: nothing provides ladspa-calf needed by lmms-0.4.9-1.pm.1.2.i586
Solution 1: do not install lmms-0.4.9-1.pm.1.2.i586
Solution 2: break lmms by ignoring some of its dependencies
Apperantly there is no ladspa-calf in repos. I found in ladspa in web search here -> software.opensuse.org: Search Results but that doent include ladspa-calf

Strange, I’ve installed lmms several times before on different machines.
But when I tried it today I got the same error as you.
I did solution 2 and so far so good, so I recommend you try solution 2.
When looking at the lmms page on packam (here) it says that it changed two days ago.
So probably something gone wrong making the package?

are you sure you want this FACTORY for 11.1 repo?

my understanding is you should disable this one immediately after
installing VLC…
then i look at the others below and wonder how you can even boot…

I feel annoyed that I can’t put my wide range of languages on stupid

Lots of the repos got installed while using web-search installs and 1-click install. I thought keeping them active would help with finding more packages easily. If that’s a drawback, I will disable them. Thanks.
DenverD pointed you in the right direction: you repo-list is pretty much a mess. You should tidy that and the respective packages soon (btw: one shoudn’t use the Videolan-repo at all, esp. when running a system for audio editing or the like).
Some of my favourite DAW applications:
• Hydrogen [drum sequencer]
• Rosegarden [the already mentioned hypersequencer]
• Renoise [a cool tracker - commercial software but is also offered as a free version with only few features missing]
• MuseScore [wonderful scorewriter]
• Bristol [a collection of synthesizer emulators]
