Default Compiling gpointing-device-settings-1.5.1 on OpenSUSE 11.3 problem

Hello :-) (hope not to be mistaken posting this here)

I am having problems with my touchpad on my dv7 notebook, that I can not resolve... so I thought it would be a good idea to update the gpointing-device-settings that came with the opensuse 11.3 repositories (version 1.3.1-1.2 too old maybe)

So I downloaded the source files but when I try to ./configure, I have some errors telling my that my gtk+ and gnome-settings-daemon versions are older (that is not true, I check them and they are newer)

So I am a little lost here... and also new rather new in linux world, hope someone can give me some help

    Thank you very much,

    S.

    Here is the ./configure output:

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GNOME_SETTINGS_DAEMON_CFLAGS
and GNOME_SETTINGS_DAEMON_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

Looks like it requires a newer Gnome version then you have.

Sorry I run KDE thus can not help further

Thanks Gogalthorp, I double check my version and its gnome-settings-daemon 2.30.1-2.6, so I think I am doing something else wrong or... I dont know what may be happening.

Here I found a good guide about compiling, its for newbies (me ... Compiling and installing software from source in Linux

    Hope to find a solution...

Question Re: Compiling gpointing-device-settings-1.5.1 on OpenSUSE 11.3 problem

OK, I tried some more hopping to solve my touchpad problem upgrading gpointing-device-settings (I mean compiling a new one because the default in the distro is rather old)

Seems that the error when compiling:
checking for GNOME_SETTINGS_DAEMON... configure: error: Package requirements (gnome-settings-daemon >= 2.28.0) were not met:

Means that I need to have the gnome settings daemon development files, I installed them, now I could compile the program I think, but I dont know what to do next or how to try the program I compile (or if I have installed it :-(

Anyway this is the output, hope someone can help me to understand how this works...

    Thanks!

    Hi
    As your user (NOT ROOT) run the command;
    Code:
    /usr/local/bin/gpointing-device-settings
If you also looked at the tutorial, you would have seen the
instructions to compile as your user, not root user then you can use su
    or sudo to install.

Default [SOLVED] Re: Compiling gpointing-device-settings-1.5.1 on OpenSUSE 11.3problem

Thanks Malcom, I could found the program in the /usr/local/bin/gpointing-device-settings as you told me. The tutorial told to run as root only the "make install" command, the rest as lowlevel user... I miss it, but it worked doing the whole process as root, also.

    Hi
Just a follow up, I submitted a fix/update to the Gnome:Contrib repository for gpointing-device-settings so hopefully it will be accepted soon.
