    Default zypper vs. yast updates

    greetings all,
just wonder, whether anybody came across the following weirdness as well:
yesterday i ran a 'zypper up' and my distro upgraded some 308 packages ... there were a couple of conflicts which i decided to fix today via yast, and yast seems to, basically, (re-)do the entire upgrade ... are zypper and yast competing, supplementing or undoing each other? .... theo

In the backend Yast and Zypper are basically the same. They use the same data.

What a yast update does is equivalent to zypper patch, not zypper up.

A zypper up is similar to what yast does when you tell it to update to
newer versions, but it does so on the displayed rpms, not all. I think you
would have to show all installed and available rpms in the window, and then
select to update to newer versions everything.

You have 2 active packman repos. You should only have one.

Personally I use Yast and the switching feature with a bit of manual management to do all my updates.

Can I just draw this back to folks attention

Personally I use yast when I am tired and zypper when I am refreshed. In my opinion zypper & yast, for me, are the same thing, you can download, upgrade, update, install with them.
