Default long time no official updates

    Hi All
Actually there was some but really rare. May be 2 or 3 times since installation on August till now. Getting updates from packman and some other repos like GNOME:Apps seems with no problem but no updates from Oss, Non Oss and Updates. Lets say right now i see update for kernel-desktop in Oss repo (kernel-desktop-2.6.34-12.3) but zypper keep telling me:

    Code:
    Repository: @System
    Name: kernel-desktop
    Version: 2.6.34.7-0.5.1
    Arch: i586
    Vendor: openSUSE
    Installed: Yes
    Status: up-to-date
    Here is my repo list:

    Code:

OSS and Non-OSS will never give any updates, they contain the contents of the CDs/DVDs, the distro version itself.
Can you, to give us an idea whether updating works at all give us output of
    Code:
    uname -a
    ?

The oss and non oss never do updates. The "update" repo only does security
updates, some important bug fixes, and very seldom they bump versions.
Remember that openSUSE is not a rolling updates distro.

So... what exactly do you you want to update? Depending on that, choose the
    appropriate repo.

as others have mentioned openSUSE updates only rarely come out for
anything other than security and bug patches..

some folks think "updates" and "upgrades" are the same, but not so
here...that is to say that if you are running 11.2 that was born with
Firefox 3.x and you see that Firefox 4 is "on the street" that doesn't
mean your openSUSE updater is broke if you still have 3.x
installed--it is because the move from Firefox 3 to 4 is an upgrade,
while patching critical bugs in Firefox 3.x you can expect to be
applied when they come....upgrades normally come with the next version
    of openSUSE...

    see?

    Code:
    # uname -a
    Linux linux-im76.site 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2010-10-25 08:40:12 +0200 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
    Thanks Guys
I see i have the latest kernel build from update repository. My fault is that i thought that update repository is for some critical updates and oss and non oss repos for oss and non oss programs and their updates accordingly. And update will come from any of these repositories no matter which one has newer version. And another reason is that opensuse 11.2 has had more frequently updates at least from my experience.

    Thanks again

Another problem brought back to not being a problem. Great. Glad you found out.
IIRC there indeed have been lots more updates for 11.2 over it's lifetime. I don't have an explanation for that.

    Obviously. It is older.
