Remote Desktop Viewer Suse 11.3

Hello ,

Recently I have updated my laptop from 11.1 to 11.3. Everything seems to work fine except remote desktop.

I have openvpn for my office ( which i access from this laptop) . After migration vpn setup has migrated sucessfully. I can connect to my office network. I can ping to some system.

I have used gnome RDP in 11.1. I don't think this is avaliable on 11.3 so i tried to use remote desktop viewer but get a error message " connection to host was 192.168.100.120 closed "

Can someone help

Maybe you should check what ports are open on the host your trying to connect. And about RD viewer - I really recommend to use remmina , you will find it in the OBS.

I just discovered (but didn't try) that in krdc (KDE Remote Desktop Client), you can choose to connect over vnc or rdp.

I'm using version from the nilda project - unfortunately remmina is only in Factory:Contrib project (which means it will be maybe available from standard repositories in the next release).
So yo get this working you need to add this repository. From command line as root please type following commands:

zypper ar  http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/xfce:/nilda/openSUSE_11.3/ nilda
zypper ref nilda
zypper in remmina remmina-plugins remmina-gnome

Which should install most of the important components. Remmina supports VNC,RDP,SSH,XDMCP,SFTP - so you use it for many type of connections.
After installing, if you don't want to mess default repositories with the nilda project (which is some fork of openSuse) please disable the repo:

Any KDE application works in Gnome. It will just need to install a bunch of stuff if you don't have the KDE environment already installed.
See info with:
zypper info krdc
Install with:
zypper in krdc
