Default Sorting - Misery and Yast/Alien!

    Hello Community !

As a "Newbe",at first I have to torture you with I hope not too
    dummish questions :

    - Last time, searching around for annother Topic on different
Linux - Forums,I found an article(may be here ?),how I can get back the former case-sensitiv sort-by-name (ABCabc instead of AaBbCc),but never found it again. Can anyone help here ?

    - Can I install Debian - Packages with Yast(Alien installed) on my
    11.3 - System risklessly,or do I have to wait for the 11.4 - Suse ?

Hope,my english is not too horrible !

Many thanks in anticipation of your help !

    Here my Platform : AMD X2 , 2GB , etc. mit OpenSuse 11.3 .

    Hi,

    - I don't understand the case sensitive ordering. You want to order what?

    - Installing packages form other distribution is always a tricky and risky thing to do. I hope you don't want to install critical system packages here. I don't recommend it. Moreover, you have to use alien carefully, it doesn't miraculously and perfectly convert deb to rpm (I think about dependencies problem here....).

If you search for a package not available in the official repos, you can check in obs : software.opensuse.org: Télécharger openSUSE 11.3

    Hello Daax !

    First,thanks for responsing!

I mean the sorting-method used f.e. in the filebrowser, when you have choosed "sort by name".In recent Susen, the output was
A,B,C,a,b,c , and now I get it sorted as A,a,B,b,C,c (the so called
    case-insensivity).

If the Alien is integratet in Yast,so I think, the installation should work, but Im not sure,if Alien is really integratat in my 11.3-Yast.

    Greetings!

you don't name the file browser you are using, so..

but, most of them have a user preferences where you can change from
one of those methods to the other...look around in the setup menu..

AFAIK alien isn't integrated in YaST and probably won't be integrated in the near future.
The problem with alien is that it can give lot of dependency problems.

There's also a feature request about integrating alien in YaST: https://features.opensuse.org/310567
It got a score of -6 which doesn't look good.

    Good luck!

On Dolphin, try navigating to Tools --> Name Location tab

Enable "Case sensitive search". And/or click on the Contents tab to enable
"Case sensitive" before using the Find feature.

    Cheers!

There is a diffrenece in saying that aline is integrated in yast and available as a package in yast.

Like Edward_Lii said, I don't think Alien ever be integrated into yast because of dependencies issues.

    Hello DenverD !

My problem is not relatet to any specific File-Manager or other App,
its part of the starting configuration of the OS.There is no setting
in any of my FBs (Dolphin,Konqueror,Krusader) for that.Only the basic
    settings (Name,Size,Date etc.) exists.
Funny link there, and thanks for spending time on my problem!

I have noticed that, but I haven't searched how to change that behaviour.

It has never been and never will, as far as I know.

No, in suse installs you'd better only install packages prepared for the
same suse version. You will find that lots of software is available for
openSUSE in the buildservice. Really lots.

    Hello Romanator !

In the search, there is such a setting,I know. But i need it for displaying folders and files in that way : Main,Others,Whatever, bin,
    tmp,usr...!
It gives me an extra level of structuring the folder!
Formulating technical questions in a foreign language is a little bit
like trying to explain the offside-rule in soccer in native language!
    Thanks therefor meanwhile!
