Could You post the output of this command here ?
    Code:

I have to add that for the installation of OpenSUSE 11.3 i had to turn of (f5 or f6) the acpi from the kernel. Since trying around 6 diferent distros this was the only thing that made the screen go past that menu. And i fear this has something to do with all these issues.

I'm not an expert on this but I think You could try installing the ATI propriety driver and see if that helps. Be sure to read this thread as I think it will be very helpful and informative.

Well i must say i hadnt thought about installing the fglrx driver since everything except this brightness was working out of the box =) Now i went on and installed it, read the guide you refered to as well and finaly im getting somewhere =)

I got the Ati controlpanel now where i can adjust the screen lightness a long with gamma and all that i did with xgamma before. Seems now that im able to use this computer as well =) Got the brightness down a friendly for the eyes now =)

Im glad cuz when i installed the bootloader to the mbr the windows bootloader got bad and that means i cant return the computer =) but now im very sattesfied with the results =)

    Thanks for the help!

Yeah you are so right =) I was just under the impression that the acpi=off would just be behind all this evil stuff =) Though i still cant bring out the brightness applet or get my battery to show (some issues semes to be involved with this on toshiba laptops) i can still use the computer =) The rest is just for fun now =)

    Thanks again Greg!
