golly help/other game of life simulators
Ok I just read the new Stephen Hawkings book, and I give it a "Huh?". But it talks about something called Conway's "The Game of Life" which is just an abstract "world", i.e. a turn based board game without any players (totally dependent on the initial state), and I was looking to fiddle with it.
There is something on sourceforge called Golly, Browse Golly, a Game of Life simulator Files on SourceForge.net, but when I hit the play button the application quits and I get this on the command line:
Code:
./golly: symbol lookup error: ./golly: undefined symbol: gzopen64
Anyone get this working? or is there an alternative anywhere?
Thanks,
Malcolm

Re: golly help/other game of life simulators
I know this is on fedora forum but I think it applies to openSUSE as well:
undefined symbol: gzopen64 - FedoraForum.org
Desktop: Gigabyte GA-Z270-HD3 - Core i7 7700K - openSUSE Leap 42.2 KDE
Laptop: HP EliteBook 8770W - Core i7 3940XM - openSUSE Leap 42.2 KDE

Re: golly help/other game of life simulators
Wow thanks, but if I'm right in my reading that involves me messing with my zlib package, which is not for the faint of heart. Which means I'll probably get to it tomorrow . Anyhow I'll give it a try and post if it works, just not tonight.

Sorry about the delay in the reply question, but I have to ask where this is. I'm running 11.3 and my search for it comes up empty in Yast->Software Management; I have standard repos enabled.
Haven't really had time to look at this, got busy at work, still might pursue the above line.
Thanks,
Malcolm

Searching in the search box of the web.
<http://software.opensuse.org>
Type the package you want in the search box, select your distro version, hit button.
Rocket science :-P
For my version, 11.2, there are three hits. Dunno for other versions, but at worst, there is a src
rpm that can be rebuilt.

Re: golly help/other game of life simulators
what repos are they hitting in? I'm not getting anything.
Edit: oh wait I see, I found it through searching 11.2. The src isn't building on 11.3.

I can only suggest asking the maintainer of that package.
