Honestly I just don't have any issues you describe. Perhaps I just live a far too simple life in the Linux world
And I'm using 11.4 M2 ATM with no trouble whatsoever

To me it looks like you're sticking to a KDE4 release for no reason, complaining about bugs that have been fixed long ago. The devs are not going to fix it on your install. If you want to find bugs, the least thing to do is run the latest versions to see if things are fixed. When things are fixed, bugs are closed, over and done with. People that suffer from the bugs will have to update.

About the "browse file system": you're refering to KDE3. KDE3 is no longer in development, so forget about getting this option back, or do a feature request for KDE4.

About kdropbox: IIRC it relies on a running KDE desktop, I guess it needs some of the KDE services running, which won't run in Gnome.

    FYI
I don't use kdropbox, it's better without it. I did a guide in the Unreviewed Howto's

I've done all I can to eliminate dolphin from my systems for pretty much the
reasons you outline. So far, configuring the default file manager to
Konqueror has eliminated most (but not all) instances and it provides the
functionality you seem to want (as I do). The problem is with some of this
simplification/improvement is that it's at the expense of productivity
potential by reducing flexibility. I guess I'm one of the "Do what I tell,
not what you THINK I want to do" set.
