Default Month of emails gone after SeaMonkey upgrade from OpenSuse repo

Imagine my surprise when, after accepting the proposed upgrades posted for OS 11.1 today, that my SeaMonkey email client shows NO messages from Sept. 2010 in any account, sent or received.

Any idea of what happened? Any hope of recovery?

More info: Upon checking for messages, an unusually large number were seem to download (POP server) but few appeared in the in boxes. Old messages from August appeared for the first time.

Yes, and checking after I calmed down a bit revealed that the upgrade created a new .slt directory. My Sept. messages were in an old file under .mozilla/default/... rather than .mozilla/seamonkey/....

In the mail interface, I was unable to change the local directory to .mozilla/default. Couldn't paste the string, and the Browse button, while it allowed me to find the .mozilla/default/... directory, would not change to it.

So, I seem to have only one other option, which is to move the "good" files into the new .mozilla/seamonkey/... directory, overwriting the older files. Before I try that, I'd appreciate any hints that may apply. For example, I believe I recall that the index file will be rebuilt automatically if deleted--which sounds like a good idea if changing the mail file. Any other gotchas?

    Thanks.

    At least one good advice:
Find out where all Seamonkey data reside, make backup copies.

You can have different profiles and choose during start. Start the program with "--help" on a
    terminal to find the options.

Also, you can copy the mail folders from the old structure to the new - and change their names if
necessary to avoid overwriting new folders. If you also copy the indexes you will keep the
information about which mail was read, replied-to, etc.
