VMware hosting question

I’ve been given a hosting project to do and don’t know where to start. Basically, we have some VMware virtual machines from a company called stratogen (http://www.stratogen.net) who don’t have opensuse as a standard install. I’ve been told to install it on a virtual machine at my office and then I can upload the virtual machine on to their platform. I’ve installed opensuse plenty of times but I don’t know what to do on the VMware side of things. Has anyone done this before?

It is a standard installation as a first step if the vmware is already
setup you create a new virtual machine in vmware (I guess you will have
documentation how to do this or already know it). When you decide about the
virtual cdrom you can choose a iso image and select the install dvd iso of
opensuse.
Start the vm and make your usual installation.
It is a good idea when this is done to install the vmware tools in opensuse
after you have the vm up and running.
If you do not know what to do or you do not know what that means report back
here.
I can guide you through this step.

openSUSE 11.2 64 bit | Intel Core2 Quad Q8300@2.50GHz | Gnome 2.28 | GeForce
9600 GT | 4GB Ram
openSUSE 11.3 64 bit | Intel Core2 Duo T9300@2.50GHz | Gnome 2.30 | Quadro
FX 3600M | 4GB Ram

I forgot to ask, will you use vmware server, player or workstation to create
this machine and do you need to know precise details howto do something in
vmware?

openSUSE 11.2 64 bit | Intel Core2 Quad Q8300@2.50GHz | Gnome 2.28 | GeForce

openSUSE 11.3 64 bit | Intel Core2 Duo T9300@2.50GHz | Gnome 2.30 | Quadro

I found a video for you to get an idea, it was for 11.1 but that makes not
so much a difference.

Thanks so much for your help Martin. The video was very helpful.
I’m going to have a go at installing using VMplayer. I’ll report back with my success.

Thanks again.
