no that is most likely about the the system ram
you have LESS than the needed amount

    A question ?
did this computer have windows 95 or 98 on it ?
    i am guessing win 95

if so installing most os's will be a problem

"D@mn small Linux" might work BUT it likes 64 meg ram as a min .
try booting into some of the live cd's like Knoppix, DSL, or puppy
and see if they will even run on that computer.

Johnvv is right, your machine can't handle much more than windows 95, even windows 98 needs at least 128MB ram, 16MB video is also needed for Linux above SUSE 7.2. I don't know if your in a position to get a better PC but that would be vvvvvveeeerrrrryyyy advisable.

You can install debian on such a machine, but do not select a gnome or kde
environment, do a minimal install, install the x server and choose a window
manager of your choice (fluxbox will work with only 64 mb of ram).

How much swap do you have? Is it active?

I have a Pentium 1 machine with 32 MB of Ram, and SuSE 7.3. Yes, both Gnome and KDE work: G. is
faster, but things like fwmn are even faster there. Netscape 4.7 is usable, Mozilla is not (half an
hour to start). Staroffice is usable, after a minute to start.

    Enjoy! :-)
