Exclamation Mic not working in Skype

    Hi,

I installed Opensuse 11.3 KDE on my laptop and Mic on skype is not working at all. It was working fine on GNOME. Please let me know how to configure it.

I resolved it by myself, I found that "pulseaudio" is not installed so I did following

    #zypper in pulseaudio

    Loading repository data...
    Reading installed packages...
    Resolving package dependencies...

Problem: patterns-openSUSE-kde4_pure-11.3-22.1.i586 conflicts with pulseaudio provided by pulseaudio-0.9.21-9.2.i586
    Solution 1: deinstallation of patterns-openSUSE-kde4_pure-11.3-22.1.i586
Solution 2: do not install pulseaudio-0.9.21-9.2.i586

Choose from above solutions by number or cancel [1/2/c] (c): 1

open Skype's "Options" menu, go to "Sound Devices"..

in mine all the "Sound Devices" are set to "Default device (default)"
but i can spin the microphone to others listed behind the arrors..

try a few and see if it helps..

I tried all the options but the voice is not captured by any option. I tried "pulseaudio" and it works fine BUT now I have another issue. If I start watching youtube I cant talk on skype (no audio/no voice) but it works fine when the system starts first. It doesn't work even if I close the youtube

yep, it is also my experience that Flash cannot be trusted to not be
    predatory with the sound system..

same here (for me) with mplayer...it plays ok but thinks it is the
only program here with access to sound...

i think both problems comes from a long history of Window's
users/developers doing ONE thing at a time...which is why so many of
them always run programs full screen (i almost never do)..

you should log a bug at http://wiki.opensuse.org/Submitting_Bug_Reports

and, report the facts that you saw in openSUSE vs the others with the
    same hardware..

My "mic" volume is the "digital" slider under openSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.4 The "mic" sliders do nothing but the "boost" slider does work. I had to add the "mic"sliders to the mixer as well. I kept making test calls until I found the right control.

I checked and alsamixer still works from the terminal too. It can really help when trouble shooting these problems.

The short story is the labels and functions in Kmix may not be correct. It after all thinks I have Intel HDA when I have Realtek HDA.
