Thread: Zypper very slow?

  1. #1

    Default Zypper very slow?

I am a previous kubuntu user with a newly install opensuse. One thing that bugs me is that zypper is terribly slow on my system compared apt. Performing operations info, search, install etc often take anywhere from 10s to 50s to see output at terminal (occasionally it is fast, I suppose it's bcos data is cached); with apt it is usually no more than 2 seconds. Doing in Yast2 is not slow though.

Is this a problem of mine or zypper is just slow?

The equivalent of what apt* does is "zypper --no-refresh", not "zypper".

    To refresh metadata takes time...

That's weird, since zypper is what's being used when running the software installer from Yast2...

Can you be more specific? What is zypper slow in ?

You're right...zypper is only the command line tool.
