Default Video Effects Question - Picture in Picture and others

Saw several videocast and was curious whether it is possible to produce similar experience using Linux applications.

If I were to record* my desktop using recordmydesktop/ffmpeg and wanted to learn how to :

    1. add sound into it, like clicking sounds to simulate the actual action

    2. add picture in picture, overlay a person/narrator explaining the actions at small corner of the original recording*

    3. add effects (like in presentation slides) to have the narrator fade/swap in/out of the video

Is there application(s) in Linux that we can install and learn how to do it?

    Appreciate any advise.

You will likely have to use different tools. For basic video editing I use KDEnlive. It allows pictures-in-pictures.

For example this nixiepixel tutorials videos:
Basic Introduction to Kdenlive | Kdenlive
    or this for a picture-in-picture including a fade/in out:
Kdenlive - Picture in picture transition | Kdenlive

... I'm not aware of any special software for a clicking sound. You could make up a .wav sound that creates that effect and just drop it in the audio track at the appropriate place.

There are other video tutorials on that kdenlive site.

kdenlive is packaged for openSUSE by the packman packagers.

    oldcpu, thanks for the pointer.

when I say clicking sound, I am listing it as an example, will probably record some sounds through a microphone using audacity - that is assuming Kdenlive can allow me to merge/drop the sound files into the video.

Yes, of course. That's intrinsic to most video editors.

Avidemux may also be worth considering, if you don't mind the added complexity.
