    Default MS Publisher Alternative?

Is there any program in Linux that can replace MS Publisher? It's the only thing keeping my parents from using SUSE.

    After read wikipedia I see:
"Microsoft Publisher, officially Microsoft Office Publisher, is a
desktop publishing application from Microsoft. It is an entry-level
application, differing from Microsoft Word in that the emphasis is
placed on page layout and design rather than text composition and
proofing. The current version is Microsoft Office Publisher 2010 for
Windows (no version exists for the Macintosh), released on June 15, 2010."

so I believe you can use Scribus to do the same and more...

PD: don't blame me for post this

I know some people use scribus for DTP. It is available in the repositories
.. A description can be found here
    http://www.scribus.net/

It is of course not exactly the same (it is not a publisher clone) so they
will have to learn something new.

It's for making different types of documents. Stuff like newsletters, brochures, business cards, letterhead and labels. I've only used it a couple of times so I don't know everything it can do.

Scribus looks like it should do the trick.

    Thanks for the help.

I tried Scribus for our secretary to use - didn't go over real well.
Biggest gripe she had was lack of transportability of her prior Pub work.
So far I haven't found anyway to read in the MS file format so I set her up
a VM with XP just to run Publisher ;-(

Kindly post back if you make any progress - I'd love to banish that last Win
    app from the office.

    just wondering:

is OpenOffice something (Writer/Impress/?) able to read MS Publisher
    formats?

I know OpenOffice Writer can do some of the same things I've used Publisher for, business cards and labels, so I wouldn't be surprised if it could open files from Publisher.

No it can't open that files. The only thing I ever found was a link to an
    online conversion service here
    http://user.services.openoffice.org/...hp?f=7&t=13121
    Though I never tried that.
