Laptop fan doesn't start with openSuSE 11.3

Hello,

I’ve installed openSuSE 11.3 about 1 week ago on my Acer Aspire 5920G laptop and I’ve noticed that my laptop fan doesn’t start at all. The temperature widget form KDE displays a value of aprox. 60 degrees (in Windows by this time the fan would have started).

I’ve tried to use pwmconfig but it detected no pwm capable sensors. Issuing a sensors command will only display one temperature sensor (I guess the same that is used by the KDE widget). Also, fancontrol displays this error : Error: Can’t read configuration file.

I don’t recall having this issue in openSuSE 11.1 or openSuSE 11.2.

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

P.S. Also, is there any way to configure the new nVidia driver (I’m thinking that it may not like my 8600M GT video card and messes up the fan control; but then again, I’m not that experienced in linux )?

For the nvidia driver if you install it manually don’t forget to add “nomodeset” to your kernel boot options.

elseway, what’s the problem with you nvidia card + nvidia driver?
