ViewNX on openSUSE or Ubuntu?

Hey,

I wanted to ask if there was ANY way of running the image editing software ViewNX on Ubuntu or openSUSE. And please equivalent programs, if you know some.

Would WINE be an idea?

Thanks in advance!
Bubikopf

I ddo nnoy know what ViewNX is, but Gimp is a much used image editor on Linux. It is not only in the OSS repo, but it is installed by default IIRC. Look for it in the main menu.

Well, thanks. The problem is, that Iā€™d need exactly this program.

Why do you then first state:

And please equivalent programs, if you know some

And may I assume that while you ask for ā€œUbuntu or openSUSEā€ that in fact you mean a Linux version and that you know ViewNX from some other, not specified by you, operating system?

Then you better go to the ViewNX website and see if they offer it for Linux or not. Or, if they have an Open Source version, which could then by you (or someone else) be ported to Linux.

ViewNX is a kind of photo management/viewer software from Nikon and only
available for windows and mac os. So the only chance is to try to get it
installed under wine (no idea if that works), if really exactly that program
is needed (why?).

Otherwise have a look at f-spot or digikam both are available for opensuse
and ubuntu (and most likely for every other linux distro).

Infos at
http://f-spot.org/Main_Page
http://www.digikam.org/

Thanks for the information. But why didnā€™t the OP post this? Leaving it to us to find out what this is about.

That is a good question, I was just curious myself to see if that is
something so powerfull that really no replacement(s) exists.
