Question STATA 8.0 32 bit complains about missing library althought the gtk package is installed.

As of this older thread, I am coming from installing STATA on 11.3 (KDE). I receive again the well known error message:"error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-1.2.so.0:cannot open file: No such file or directory".
But this time I am surprised since I did install the i586gtk packages. So do I have to link manually, but to what?
Thanks for any hint. (Seems that ageing 32 bit software on 64 bit systems is getting an issue ) .

Just a wild guess, but maybe you need the devel version to have the required headers,
