I don’t remember now if you have to converto swf to flv before ffmpeg

I remember having done it with memcoder. Just check that you can view the swf file with MPlayer. When you can view it then you can also encode it to something else.

I can play these files in suse but cant play them in unix, need to convert and then try.

WinFF is available in the Packman repo, and is able to convert from swf to avi.
Avidemux can also do it.

I am using handbrake from packman repository for almost all my video conversions. Have not tried to convert swf, though I suggest to give it a try.

swf could be anything. You WANT the underlying flv that’s possibly
there… but sometimes it’s simply NOT… and so you might not be able
to convert this to anything.

Things like RecordMyDesktop and other screen recorders might be useful
in cases where the thing being converted isn’t really a video that can
be obtained.

I found a solution on how to convert SWF to AVI from techsmith’s feedback:

Now I easily convert SWF to AVI, WMV, MOV,MP4,OGV, WebM after I read this article which informs me what’s SWF format and how to decode SWF to MP4, MOV, AVI, FLV, WMV etc and encode MP4 to SWF, MOV to SWF, AVI to SWF, etc. Love it
