Thread: Problem mounting encrypted file

    Default Problem mounting encrypted file

    Hi all,

I've just installed 11.3 and tried to open an encrypted file using losetup, cryptsetup and mount (all via sudo as root) exactly the same way I did on 11.2. Mounting fails with:

    Code:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/mapper/cr_Daten.img, missing codepage or helper program, or other error
Are there any known incompatibilities between 11.2 and 11.3 ? Have I missed something ? A package, access rights ... ?

    Thanks, Steve.

    I don't know.

FWIW, did you need to set up something for 11.2 to access the file? May be blocksize or filetype or use UTF8 ?

No, I've used the standard setup on 11.2, nothing special.

The good new is that I was able to recover the data by using an ancient laptop with only 256 MB RAM running Ubuntu 9.10. Also using the default setup for losetup, cryptsetup and mount.

The bad news is that it doesn't answer my original question ...

Good news you got the files.

As for the original question, I don't know but maybe you should check to 11.2 vs 11.3 to see if the modules are different or use different modules. Old Ubuntu, and 11.2 read no problem but new kernel 11.3 can't.

You should look at the log. Sometimes other useful info is there.
