Default Why is Nepomuk Strigi File Indexer suddenly running?

I've had opensuse 11.2 for a long time and I've never seen this nepomuk thing run before. But all of a sudden on startup just now, I got a message that it was running. Why? What is this and should I be worried? Why have I never seen it before?

If your running Kmail,Contacts, etc and other KDE applications they need
Nepomuk for the Akonadi application to work. You do not need Strigi to run.
This can be disabled in desktop config-->advanced-->desktop search.

This is an indexer that allows your desktop search to tag and rate your files. This allows a superior search based of your file system based on rating and tags instead of simple file names. If you want to disable or modify the functioning of this tool, you can control it via "Configure Desktop > Advanced > Desktop Search. Unclick the box in the first window to disable it, in the File indexing tab you can choose which directories to index, and in the Advanced Settings tab you can modify how much memory it can take.

In short, you don't need to worry about this as a security problem, but it could be an issue with low performance machines if it consumes too much ram or processor time.
