openSUSE 11.3 Orphan Packages

Hi,

I just upgraded from 11.2 to 11.3. Under Software Management packages, I noticed a new category called “Orphan Packages”. Is it OK to delete all these orphan packages to save disk space? If so, how?

Thanks for your help.

“Orphan Packages” are something you have installed for which does not exist in any present repositories you have added to openSUSE. Like any program, they can be removed if you don’t want to use them or they are not needed, but you will be unable to get them back if removed if you decide you want them back later. Since the release of openSUSE 11.3 and the new added repositories, many programs have not yet been migrated over to the newest version and so programs orphan today may have a home tomorrow. Any program loaded from a CD or DVD that does not exist online could also be listed as an Orphan.

Thank You,

Thanks for your reply. I will leave them alone for now.
