Unhappy I am new to OpenSUSE, I need some help..

    Hello everyone,

I am fairly new to linux, I have used Ubuntu and Linux Mint for quite some time now until I got a new machine. Some friends told me to try OpenSUSE because it has really been polished over the last few years.

Install went smoothly got everything working properly except for my video card. My video card is an ATI HD4890 with sound support over HDMI. I had the sound working in Ubuntu using the non-oss ATI drivers. I was wondering if someone could please teach me how to install them again here on OpenSUSE 11.3. My screen fonts and colors also look terrible compared to Windows or Ubuntu.

Is there a way I can make it look better? I remember CCC (Catalyst Control Center for ATI) had two color formats (RGB and YCbCr). I had to set it to YCbCr because my screen is an HDTV and it looked much cleaner than RGB. Is there a way I can acheive similar results with OpenSUSE?

    Thank you!

11.3? I have not heard anyone being able to get Catalyst working in 11.3 yet. Last time I tried, the latest Catalyst (10.6) does not work with the updated kernel + x server in openSUSE 11.3. Maybe 10.7 or 10.8 will support it.

If you're using 11.2, then the easiest way to get is to add the ATI repository and install the x11-video-fglrxG02 package:

    Code:
    su -
    zypper ar http://www2.ati.com/suse/11.2/ ATI
    zypper in x11-video-fglrxG02
    openSUSE 11.3 GM + M$ Win Vista HP TX1316au AMD Athlon 64 X2 Mobile TK-55, nVidia GeForce Go 6150

    openSUSE 11.3 GM + M$ Win 7 HP dm-3 AMD Neo X2 L335, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200

    Glad that it worked

I believe vsync on the Catalyst driver has been broken for some time now. Not sure if anyone found a way to fix it.
