    Exclamation Build Service Repository Changes

User please be aware of changes to the URL structure for certain repositories in the Build Service, particularly KDE.

Use the repository manager in Yast to remove the old one/s and add in the new address. If your repositories were added by a OneClick installer, you might find this procedure a little tricky. In which case, reply to this thread with the result of this terminal code:
    Code:
    zypper lr -d
For all your information, the build service main directory is here:
    Index of /repositories

Here is a repository management guide:

did the person(s) making the changes forget to pre-announce the plans,
execution dates and instructions the openSUSE Universe needed to cope?

Yes, I had a moments confusion when YAST errored on searching for any updates last night.

I just removed the KDE factory repo's from YAST, then found the new links & added them again.

    All's fine now :-)

What's with the re-restructuring? I had wondered about the KDE repositories not refreshing yesterday, but couldn't find anything on this topic until today. Was it announced anywhere else?
    I'm confused...No, wait...Maybe I'm not...

    the opensuse-kde mailing-list:
    http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-k.../msg00008.html

WHAT? you don't read that list every day....me either...nor do most
    users on earth i suspect..

actually, in all fairness it was *planned* to be an invisible change
to users--the old address should have auto-forwarded to the new
address, and some did but a few dependencies didn't (i'm told, due to
an error which has now been fixed)

they should all work now even if using the old addresses (i'm told--in
    another mail list)..

    true?

I don't expect everybody to read opensuse-kde AT ALL. But to be fair, you don't need to read it every day...
It probably started with [opensuse-kde] Discussion about repo policies/purposes (Att: Packagers), "officialy" with [opensuse-kde] KDE repo structure proposal (I ignored 99% of the discussion, wasn't really interested).

And has been discussed in every IRC meeting since the one at 2010/04/01 (six of them).

So you need to read opensuse-kde or the IRC meeting (or just the minutes)... every three months.

It should have been announce in openSUSE News? Probably... but I'm not sure so much people read it anyway (for sure more than opensuse-kde...). I expect most people that reads openSUSE News to also read Planet openSUSE... and I *suppose*, even if I don't remember any post, that someone commented it in his blog.

During the discussion the wiki was also used (KDE/RepositoryRenaming - openSUSE).

just another user ... well probably i'm stupid but

"File '/repodata/repomd.xml' not found on medium 'http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.2/'"

    still on topic

Appreciate repo's work but why the new structure have to be different?

some measure progress by the amount and rate of change, rather than
the amount of improvement, stability and predictability..
