Isn’t the Fusion Icon needed in KDE? Can’t be sure. But Ian’s guide
should help
Compiz as a composite manager offers a little bit more and has other intentions than KDE4 / KWin… I use KWin as well, but I don’t quite understand why it is recommended as a substitute for Compiz so often.
Please tell us which GFX-card you are using and whether a xorg.conf is used. In many cases window decoration in Compiz fail because Composite is not enabled properly.

missed it, clicking provides decorations but none if the windows
are movable (another setting?)
strange BUT before up’ing to 11.3 compiz worked fine (though only
the version in 11.2 oss, not 9.0)

ok, there’s a “move window” setting - now checked
It appears my earlier config files (except emerald’s) were not
being used, did the location/name change?

of course they changed - now:
~/config/compiz/compizconfig-1/config
13.) For KDE4 users, To set compiz as the default window manager open Configure Desktop (Personal Settings). Then click Default Applications. Click Window Manager and choose Use a different window manager. Use the drop down menu to choose Compiz (not Compiz custom).
still holds true for the KDE 4.4.4 version as well. 4.5 is when they start moving stuff around. I’ll have to check that out and make any necessary changes.
There should be freedom of choice.
Like it or not compiz is preforming same
effects faster on MY laptop.
Really, I do not write it to be mean and write bad
things about Kwin, but If it works faster
for me on my computer, so why not have it.
I like a lot default kde windows decorations and emerald
is not for my taste. Why does it not work out of the box
to have compiz-fusion and KDE windows decorations ?
Um… sorry, but did anyone question that in this thread?
yea, well probably it was too hot reaction of mine. When someone ask some help with compiz often someone “suggests” Kwin instead/(in addition) of a help. Just felt like poking back :P. sorry.
It’s been a while since I have used Compiz regularly, but switching windecos was never a problem for me. I used fusion-icon for that.
I got kde windows decorator working. (Compiz-fuzion from one-click install, on KDE4.4.4)
open Compizconfig setting manager (ccsm)
go to tab window decorations (tick for enable windows decorations)
The fusion-icon is not necessary at all. i don´t see why somebody should switch the decorator … i got 2 kde 4.5 running on 2 different machines and tried the kwin desktop-effects when they came up . . . but as i work with a lot of different windows kwin often seems to lag and takes too much of cpu power. as i switched to compiz everything was fine again. even if i run 20 windows at the same time, everything is fine smooth.
But today I was wondering . . . I´m just installing a 11.3 x64 on a Notebook and see that the “compiz-emerald” Package is not in the REPOS !!!
i don´t see why somebody should switch the decorator …
because I do not like emerald,
For me it is too robust. I do not want to spend days to configure window decoration to what i want.
The title bar in most of emerald themes is too big/thick and transparency puzzles me and so on…
