Thread: Firefox has choppy scrolling

    Cool Firefox has choppy scrolling

I installed the newest (11.2?) KDE opensuse last night on my computer. Last night everything was fine but while I slept I guess the Linux Gremlins got to my laptop. Now when I scroll down in Firefox the motion is slow and choppy. Has this happened to anyone else? If so what can I do to fix it?

Could be a graphics issue. What graphics device do you have and have you installed any drivers.

    Or
    In FFox prefs
    Advanced - General tab
    Uncheck smooth scrolling.

    often...sometimes really bad, sometimes not...
i think it depends on how much java script is in use on the various
    sites..

you are welcome to listen to other also, but i have decided it is
easier to expect and accept, than to fix..

you might try Opera, or turning off java script in Firefox, or turning
off other addons in Firefox, or avoid sites designed by MS design
tools, or or or or or

    or, just expect it, sometimes..

    ymmv

No, I haven't installed any type of graphic driver.

I believe it's ATI graphics if I'm reading this sticker right. Could you tell me where I may find the driver? Thanks. I'm new to OpenSuse so I'm a little lost. Thanks again.

I would try Opera if it wasn't for adblock plus. I'm so used to have all the ads blocked I don't know if I could get used to seeing them again.

Would it happen if I switched to the non KDE (as bad as I would hate too) OpenSuse?

This is the device for your video
    Code:
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RS780MC [Radeon HD 3100 Graphics] [1002:9613]
Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:ffb0]
It may not be working properly looking at that. And I don't have time to look in to it right now. You can read here:
openSUSE Graphic Card Practical Theory Guide for Users - openSUSE Forums

I incorrectly said ATI are installed by default, they are not. I was on a Intel moment, sorry.

You do need a driver though.

i do not know for sure (i've not tried it), but i do not believe it is
    a KDE<>Firefox interaction....as said, i believe it is a javascript
problem, especially javascript as implemented by MS site development
    tools..

you can load up Gnome or other and give it a try--i hear the price is
    pretty low to try :-)
