Default Hidden Panels don't show with Nvidia drivers

    I have a strange problem:
Due to my small monitor I have set the gnome panels on top and bottom to auto hide. After installing the nvidia drivers the panels do not appear if I go to the edges with my mouse.
If I switch the resolution to VGA (640x480) however, the panels appear again, but not at top/ bottom but in the middle of the screen.

Does anybody have an idea how to resolve this?
