can i delete d: data and copy the files to c:

so that i have my 3 original partitions?

would this make it a little better?
Unfortunately this will not help. D: appears to be /dev/sda5 which is a logical partition

in your primary extended, you would need to also remove your primary extended, /dev/sda4

and here is the problem (well the largest one anyway, there are more), /dev/sda4 overlaps /dev/sda3.

/dev/sda3 appears to be windows C: deleting /dev/sda4 would also damage /dev/sda3

Your partitions (at least the ones with data on them) most at risk are /dev/sda3 and /dev/sda5

At a minimum, data you need from these partitions, needs to backed up, weather you install linux or not.

Your partitioning is a mess, don't risk data you need.

    hi

today i started my laptop and partition D and with it all my data (music,Videos) are gone.
instead i now have 355 GB unallocated space.

Sorry to read that, can you post fdisk -l output again, as it is now.

The data itself is most likely not gone, the partition table certainly has issues.

You can recover lost partitions with Test Disk but I doubt you'll have much luck:
    Download this guide:
    LXF128.feat_testdisk.pdf.zip - Windows Live

*Personally I'd consider it a lesson learned. Wipe the disk and re-install openSUSE

From which ever direction I look at this, you need a backup solution.

Perhaps a second internal hard disk, or what is referred to as a USB external hard disk,

They can be bought cheaply these days.

fdisk still sees an shows it, gparted plays it safe by not displaying it (you know if the disk is empty or not!)

Again TestDisk, check the link from caf4926

The data in that partition can probably be retrieved, Partition type is not detected, How much trouble do you want to go to?

i dont really care about the data.
i have all my important files on my external hdd.
all i want is my 3 original partitions from windows and the 2 recovery partitions.

is it possible to save these 3 partitions to my external hdd and format my complete drive?
i really need them i dont have any windows and driver cds and i need windows 7

but i still want to install opensuse later

i didn't knew that creating and deleting partitions is so complicated.

    thx

I would take care before considering any partition changes at this stage.

It is possible and preferable to save all partitions (If there is space, to the external disk)

It should not be, There seems to have been an issue with some third party partitioning software here.

There is always a risk of something going wrong, when that happens with partitioning, Well you can see where backups are important!
